1.19

列數者：一因緣、二約教、三本迹、四觀心。始從「如是」終于「而退」，皆以四意消文，而今略書，或三、二、一，貴在得意不煩筆墨。

Regarding 'listing the numbers': first is causality; second is in terms of the teachings; third is origin and traces; fourth is contemplation of mind. Beginning with 'Thus [have I heard]' and ending with 'they withdrew', the text is explicated throughout using these four perspectives. However, it is now recorded in brief—sometimes using three, two, or one—valuing the grasp of the meaning without burdening the brush and ink.
