○序有通、別，從「如是」去、至「却坐一面」，通序也；從「爾時世尊」去、至品，別序也。通序通諸教；別序別一經。通序為五或六或七（云云）。

"The introductory section has the common and the specific. From 'Thus' onward down to 'sat to one side' is the common preface; from 'At that time the World-Honoured One' down to the end of the chapter is the specific preface. The common preface is shared across various teachings; the specific preface is unique to this single sūtra. The common preface consists of five, six, or seven [elements], and so forth.
