次列八龍者，「難陀」名歡喜，「跋」名善，兄弟常護摩竭提，雨澤以時，國無饑年，瓶沙王年為一會，百姓聞皆歡喜，從此得名，即目連所降者也，居海中。

Next are listed the eight nāgas. "Nanda" means joy; "Upananda" means goodness. The brothers constantly protect Magadha, causing rainfall in due season so that the country has no years of famine. King Bimbisāra held an assembly for them each year, and the common people were all joyous on hearing of it, from which they obtained their names; these are precisely the ones whom Maudgalyāyana subdued. They dwell in the ocean.
