Regarding "made offerings": comprehensively, all three karmas are offerings. Specifically, humble, attentive, and devout bowing is called "revering"; focused concentration of utmost mindfulness is called "venerating"; uttering words of praise is called "eulogizing"; and giving material rewards is called "making offerings." The text here is brief; fully stated, it should be as extensively explained in the Anantanirdeśa-sūtra. Heavenly delicacies, heavenly perfumes, heavenly bowls, and vessels are indeed offerings. The Bodhisattva Mahāvyūha and the eighty thousand great beings pressing their palms and crossing their hands is indeed revering; single-mindedly gazing up is indeed venerating; uttering seven-character gāthās is indeed eulogizing. Now, discussing the gathering of the assembly, that text is cited because the assembly gathered in that sūtra, having heard the Dharma preached, remained dignified and did not disperse; and from that very seat [the Buddha] went on to preach the Lotus Sūtra. Thus we know that the offerings of the three karmas cannot differ; using that extensive explanation to interpret this brief text incurs no error in meaning.
