6.52

一云說《般若》竟，於異處遊觀，尋思所領大乘法門生心貪樂，為失為不失，如此等尋思，即是大乘機發時也。此時去《法華》未遠故言少時。又當說無量義時大乘機發。何以知然？無量義中明七種方便，無量漸頓從一法生。既聞此說，思惟昔之三藏三乘悉從一法生，如是三乘亦應入一，如是思時漸已通泰大心即發，故言成就大志也。

One says: having finished preaching the Prajñā, wandering and contemplating elsewhere, he reflected upon the Mahāyāna dharma-gates he had managed, and gave rise to a mind of craving and delighting in them, wondering whether it was a loss or not a loss; such reflections were precisely the time when his capacity for the Mahāyāna was aroused. Because this time was not far from the Lotus Sūtra, it is called 'a short time'. Moreover, at the time of preaching the Anantanirdeśa-sūtra, the capacity for the Mahāyāna was aroused. How is this known? In the Anantanirdeśa, the seven expedient means are clarified: immeasurable gradual and sudden [teachings] arise from one dharma. Having heard this preaching, he reflected that the former three vehicles of the Tripiṭaka all arose from one dharma; likewise, the three vehicles should also enter into the One. When he reflected in this way, he gradually became at ease and his great aspiration was aroused; therefore it says, 'He achieved his great resolve.'
