From 'At that time Śākyamuni Buddha addressed Maitreya' down is, second, the main exposition. The text has two parts: first the prose, next the gāthā admonition and permission, and afterwards the main exposition. In the prose, first is the endorsement and praise; next is the admonition—admonishing them not to be distracted, not to be indolent, and not to fall back; next is the permission, indicating the result-wisdom—result-wisdom being the Tathāgata's knowledge and vision, the wondrous result of knowledge and vision; next is the teaching of unfolding and converting, that is, 'to proclaim and demonstrate'. 'Sovereign supernatural power' refers to past benefit to beings; 'lion's swift pounce' refers to the places covered by the present emanations in the ten directions. Or it is said to be the aspect of a swift pounce surging forward, which represents the characteristic of benefiting beings through eternal abiding in the future. 'Great majestic vigor' refers to future benefit to beings. Or this is taken to be shaking the ten directions in the present, applied according to each person's intention. It is best, however, to rely on the sequence of the text. Furthermore, I personally say: 'the Tathāgata's sovereignty' is self; 'supernatural power' is bliss; 'lion's swift pounce', pouncing swiftly to eliminate defilement, is purity; 'great majestic vigor', benefiting beings in the future, is permanence. This points to the meaning of the four virtues (and so forth). In the four gāthās: the first three lines versify the three admonitions; the subsequent three gāthās and one line versify the permission. The first line versifies the indication of the fruit of wisdom; the next three gāthās versify the three times.
