One [explanation] states that the Great Sage is skillful: relying on the four siddhāntas he made such an exposition; sometimes he states that the Buddha Way is long and distant, and sometimes he states that buddhahood is easily attained; as a counteragent for those who are weary of the Way being long, he says it is short; for those who form the notion of the Way being easy and slight, he says it is long; or [it is] to bring forth past good roots, or in accordance with worldly desires, or so that hearing the explanation of length or shortness they might immediately enter the paramārtha-satya. One should know that stating they only now attain arhatship after such kalpas is an expedient practice of the four siddhāntas, guiding those of real practice to enter the Way.
