Regarding "prelude and overture" (longyin): this is elucidated by metaphor. The overture of a lecturing and reciting master is called a prelude-overture. It is also possible that the main prelude is also called an overture, just as the prelude to a song and dance makes the meaning of preface evident. Thus the main preaching is like the prelude, and the two prefaces are like the overture; hence overture is also singing. It means narrating and reciting, and also has the sense of initiating. Ancient commentaries, glossing it with the sound yin (lineage), simply interpreted it as succession (yin). Moreover, confusing cursive script, they took long (prelude) for hu (calling), and yin (succession) for che (penetrating); errors like confusing fish (yu) and Lu (lu) have existed since antiquity, and the character che becomes a double mistake.
