This text provisionally makes a general judgment from the perspective of the present work: when Śākyamuni expounded this sūtra now, the five general and five specific [factors] were all conditioned arisings, namely the conditioned arising of certifying faith and the conditioned arising of launching [the teaching]. Furthermore, the five general are the conditioned arising of harmonious assembly, and the five specific are the conditioned arising of sequential order. Therefore, for those who attain liberation from the preface to the main body, it is said that they 'open, reveal, awaken to, and enter.' Below this, all others are planted and ripened; hence, for those not yet liberated, the benefit lies in the transmission, wherefore it is said that they 'remotely bathe in the wondrous path'—all of which are the stimulus and response of this sūtra.
