3.121

凡有表者皆約現數，忽至三萬豈無表耶？以自在法門無盡故也。況正為所表且至一萬八千，二萬燈明觀釋還表二萬，如前二千即二萬也。如菩薩八萬準說可知。若具以二萬為表即表權實滿也。

Whenever there is something symbolized, it is based on the manifest number; if it suddenly reached thirty thousand, would there be nothing symbolized? Because the gate of sovereign dharmas is inexhaustible. Furthermore, being precisely what was symbolized, it temporarily reached eighteen thousand; the contemplative explanation of the twenty thousand Candrasūryapradīpas also symbolizes twenty thousand, just as the former two thousand is indeed twenty thousand. As for the eighty thousand bodhisattvas, it can be understood by analogy with what has been explained. If one takes the twenty thousand fully as what is symbolized, it symbolizes the fulfillment of the provisional and real.
