答中亦開四句，至第四句方乃為障，但是對根根鈍成障，舊計直云五濁並為大小障者，其理大違，故初為五人及身子等屬初句也。今舉央掘、盤特為二句者，則一切聲聞除此二例，並上根攝。

The answer also opens into four propositions; only when reaching the fourth proposition does it constitute an obstruction; it is merely that when matched with faculties, dull faculties constitute an obstruction. The old view, which simply asserted that the five defilements are an obstruction to both the great and the small, greatly contradicts principle. Therefore, the initial teaching for the five people, Śāriputra, and others belongs to the first proposition. Now, citing Aṅgulimāla and Panthaka as two propositions, all śrāvakas, excluding these two examples, are subsumed under superior faculties.
