問「自有」等者，初四句答華嚴問，因答出身子聞《法華經》，後之四句唯小、義當鹿苑，為欲簡出諸部大乘，是故更問：兩處不攝，為根利鈍為障不障？

Regarding the question, 'There are naturally...' and so forth: the first four propositions answered the question about the Avataṃsaka, and in the process explained Śāriputra's hearing of the Lotus Sūtra; the latter four propositions pertain solely to the small, whose meaning corresponds to the Deer Park. In order to distinguish the various divisions of the Mahāyāna, it therefore asks further: for those not subsumed by either place, are their faculties sharp or dull, and are they obstructed or not obstructed?
