9.72

「面譽」等者，如對二人偏譽一人，其不譽者義當對毀，然好譽者必當善毀，令他懷此，故須並息。又面譽如對毀，故智者息之。

Regarding "praising to one's face" and so forth: it is like being before two people and praising only one of them; the one not praised is virtually reviled to his face. Moreover, one who is fond of praising is bound to be good at reviling, causing others to harbor such thoughts; hence both must be ceased together. Furthermore, praising to the face is like reviling to the face; therefore the wise cease it.
