Regarding "although there was great teaching in the past," etc., because ignorance within the realm had not yet been broken, it is called the darkness of delusion. If one who begins to cultivate the perfect [teaching], even if they have not yet broken views and thoughts, receives a single phrase heard as a seed planted in consciousness, it will never be lost through eternal kalpas. Comparing darkness to light, if darkness is not yet in vain, how could true awakening be empty? How much more so given that those who awaken to truth do so sequentially or by leaping over, completely as described before. Therefore, "darkness of delusion" refers to before the six sense organs; although the six sense organs have not yet broken ignorance, being at the stage of similitude and non-retrogression, they are provisionally termed not dark.
