The ninth is discerning the meaning of the three wheels. The first section opens the three to reveal the one; this refers to the provisional and real nature of the teaching, and is named the wheel of preaching the Dharma. The next chapter discerns opening the near to reveal the distant, and is named the wheel of supernatural powers. The wheel of preaching the Dharma refers to all teachings from beginning to end; although all teachings are many, they do not go beyond the provisional and the real. The five vehicles are the provisional teachings, and the one vehicle is the real teaching; formerly the one was opened into five, but now the five are gathered into the one. The wheel of supernatural powers refers to all bodies from beginning to end; although all bodies are many, they do not go beyond the original and trace bodies. Initially arising and finally perishing, formerly ordinary and subsequently noble—these are named the trace bodies. Having no beginning and no end, neither arising nor ceasing—this is named the original body. Formerly, trace was manifested based on the origin, so the origin was concealed to display the trace; now, the origin is revealed through the trace, setting aside the trace to clarify the origin. As for the wheel of reading others' minds, it pervades both teachings and both bodies.
