「我聞」者，如是一句謂所生信果，此下五事謂能生信因，以阿難見三譏嫌、具八功德，親侍如來二十餘載，傳於佛語物必信之。故是生信因也。

Regarding 'have I heard' (śrutam mayā): the single phrase 'thus' is the result of generated faith; the five matters below it are the causes capable of generating faith. Because Ānanda avoided three criticisms and was endowed with eight virtues, personally serving the Tathāgata for over twenty years, when he transmits the Buddha's words, beings will certainly believe them. Therefore, this is the cause that generates faith.
