'Bhaiṣajyarāja' (Medicine King): in a past life he cured illnesses with medicine, and took his name from that. However, a bodhisattva has two kinds of bodies: First, the wish-fulfilling jewel-king body, able to bestow all happiness; being named based on this, he is called Ratnapāṇi. Second, the medicinal tree-king body; whoever sees or hears it has all suffering extinguished; being named based on this, he is called Bhaiṣajyarāja.
