《婆沙》云「月是帝釋軍前峯，故以手障之而欲食月」。《正法念經》云「日月放光障修羅眼，令不見天眾，故以手障之」。
The Vibhāṣā says: "The moon is the vanguard of Śakra's army, so he obstructs it with his hand wishing to devour the moon." The Saddharmasmṛtyupasthāna Sūtra says: "The sun and moon emit light that blinds the asuras' eyes so they cannot see the heavenly hosts, so he obstructs them with his hand."
