行因之中凡五雙：第一、明行因時節。謂正法已滅，於像法中有信毀二人，所以偏據像法者，欲勸像法眾生持經亦得根淨。又誡像法之人勿毀人謗法也。

Within practicing causes there are altogether five pairs: The first pair explains the time of practicing causes. It refers to after the True Dharma had already ended, when within the Semblance Dharma there were two persons, one faithful and one denigrating. The reason it specifically refers to the Semblance Dharma is that it wishes to encourage sentient beings of the Semblance Dharma that by upholding the sūtra they will also obtain the purity of the faculties, and also to admonish people of the Semblance Dharma not to denigrate people or slander the Dharma.
