The verse passage has two parts: first, versifying the intent of manifesting the supernatural powers; next, versifying the exhortation to cultivate. The manifestation of the supernatural powers has three parts: the first verse explains manifesting supernatural powers to benefit present sentient beings of the ten directions; the next two verses properly versify manifesting supernatural powers; the third is one verse, manifesting supernatural powers to benefit future sentient beings. From "Because of entrusting this sūtra" downward is the second part, versifying the encouragement and exhortation, which also divides into two: first, praising; second, urging upholding. The initial praise has altogether seven portals: the first two verses versify the praise of boundless merit; the next one and a half verses, the praise of getting to see the Buddhas; the next two verses, the praise of the Buddhas' rejoicing; the next one verse, the praise of soon attaining buddhahood; the next one and a half verses, the praise of obtaining the four unimpeded knowledges; the next one verse, the praise of the portal of grasping the purport of the sūtra; the next one and a half verses, the praise of eliminating delusion and generating understanding. One who upholds the Lotus Sūtra obtains these seven kinds of fruition. The second part, urging upholding, is as in the text.
