二乘乃無凡夫外道斷常，若望諸佛菩薩，裁起心則墮斷常。故《中論》云「若有所受法則墮於斷常」也。言菩薩不解者，直云「因人不知果」，其言易信。今明如《涅槃》云「十住菩薩有所住故見不了了，諸佛如來無所住故見則了了」。

The two vehicles merely lack the annihilation and permanence of ordinary beings and non-Buddhists; yet viewed from the standpoint of the Buddhas and bodhisattvas, as soon as they give rise to a thought they fall into annihilation and permanence. Hence the Madhyamakaśāstra says: "If there is any Dharma that is apprehended, one falls into annihilation and permanence." As for bodhisattvas not understanding, to simply say "persons on the causal stage do not know the fruit" makes the statement easy to believe. Now it is clarified as in the Nirvāṇa Sūtra: "Because bodhisattvas of the ten abodes have something they abide in, their seeing is not clear; because the Buddhas, Tathāgatas, have nowhere to abide, their seeing is completely clear."
