From "Śāriputra" onward is the second: requesting that he speak. First is the prose, next are the verses. In the prose, first is the formal request; from "For what reason?" onward, explaining the request. Repeating "We only pray you will speak" responds back to the repeating of "stop" above. Because the two vehicles can believe, he utters one "we only pray"; because humans and devas can receive it, he also utters "we only pray." Furthermore, for those already awakened who recognize the teaching through the principle, he utters one "we only pray"; for those not yet awakened who rely on the teaching to awaken to the principle, he also utters one "we only pray." Humans and devas can be understood by analogy to this. From "For what reason?" onward, he cites their having long planted good roots in past lives to explain the request. Concerning the verse text, there are two parts: the first line formally praises; the lower three lines formally request. As for "Dharma King": being sovereign and unhindered regarding present and past, upāyic and real, he is therefore called King. From "Only expound, pray do not be anxious" onward is the formal request. The first line indicates the request; the lower two lines explain the request.
