Second, broadly clarifying the Buddha's conversion, there are three gates overall: Before the Lotus Sūtra, gathering all errors to return to the correctness of the five vehicles is termed the gate of gathering the erroneous and returning to the correct. The first section of this sūtra unifies the differences of the five vehicles to return together to the single path, termed the gate of gathering differences and returning to sameness. The latter section of this sūtra clarifies the fruit of the dharmakāya, termed the gate of leading causes to proceed toward the fruit. These three gates leave no teaching ungathered and no person unconverted; in contrast to the past, this sūtra has only two gates, but if unifying and integrating from beginning to end, it possesses the three gates, as set forth in the Profound Meaning.
