《大品》雖明本來寂滅，未開小滅非真滅，是故聲聞不得悟也。今明小滅非直滅，則開方便門；本來寂滅相，謂顯真實義，是故聲聞方得悟也。

Although the *Pañcaviṃśatisāhasrikā* explained original tranquil cessation, it had not yet disclosed that the lesser cessation is not true cessation; for this reason the śrāvakas could not awaken. Now, explaining that the lesser cessation is not real cessation opens the door of expedient means; the characteristic of original tranquil cessation reveals the real meaning. For this reason, the śrāvakas are now able to awaken.
