5.325

有人言：具約智斷優劣，聲聞但斷正使，緣覺斷小習，菩薩結習俱傾。今謂中乘斷習經論無文，但取智有優劣譬三車不同耳。

Some say: It fully accounts for the superiority and inferiority of both knowledge and severing: the śrāvaka only severs primary afflictions; the pratyekabuddha severs minor residual habits; the bodhisattva overturns both fetters and residual habits. We now say: For the middle yāna's severing of residual habits, there is no textual evidence in the sūtras and treatises; it simply takes the superiority and inferiority of knowledge to illustrate the difference among the three carriages.
