據迹而言,身子利根聞一知二,既解教之權實即領身之真應,若就本擇者,身子既是大權助佛揚化,前以廣領教之權實,令時眾捨三悟一,今略開身之真應,亦令時眾不執迹迷本也。

Speaking from the perspective of the traces, Śāriputra had sharp faculties: hearing one, he knew two. Having understood the provisional and real of the teaching, he immediately grasped the true and responsive of the [Buddha's] body. If we examine it from the perspective of the origin: Śāriputra, being a great manifestation of upāya assisting the Buddha in propagating the transformation, had previously broadly grasped the provisional and real of the teaching to cause the assembly of the time to renounce the three and awaken to the one; now he briefly opened up the true and responsive of the body, also causing the assembly of the time not to cling to the traces and lose sight of the origin.
