6.212

五逆人不定。若值善友，如闍王得滅罪作佛；不爾者，雖信此經不免地獄，持戒人不信此經亦入地獄也。

For persons who have committed the five heinous sins, it is not fixed. If they meet a good friend, like King Ajātaśatru, their sins can be eradicated and they can become a buddha. If it is not so, even if they believe in this sūtra, they cannot avoid hell. A person who keeps the precepts but does not believe in this sūtra will also enter hell.
