From "covered by a jeweled canopy, with various flower banners hanging down" onward, this praises the teaching gate. Compassion overshadowing and covering is the jeweled canopy; moreover, sentient beings severing bonds is like brushing away dust for the elder, and compassion covering sentient beings is also like the canopy overshadowing the elder. The four means of embracing hanging down are parabled by the flower banners. Sprinkling the ground of pure precepts with the water of dhyāna-meditation, laying the dust of afflictions, scattering the flowers of wisdom, and expounding the true Dharma to display it to others is like arranging precious items. Because conversion issues from the Buddha, it says "giving out"; because the merit of conversion returns to the Buddha, it says "taking in." When the former person receives the Way, it is "taking"; when the Tathāgata bestows the Way, it is "giving." Awe is majesty; love is virtue. Furthermore, subduing is called majesty, and embracing is called virtue. Unrivaled among humans and devas, he is therefore called uniquely honored.
