品開為二：初、經家序其得解之相，第二、發言自述領解。就初又有四別：一、辨得解之人；二、明所聞之法；三、內心歡喜；四、外形致敬。初人法一雙，後喜敬一雙也。四人之中初明善吉者，或可當時起席善吉在初故爾。或可善吉有轉教之工故在初列也。

The chapter is divided into two parts: first, the compiler of the sūtra recounts the signs of their attaining understanding; second, they speak and personally express their assimilation of understanding. Within the first, there are again four distinctions: first, identifying the persons who attained understanding; second, clarifying the Dharma that was heard; third, inner joy; fourth, outward rendering of respect. The first [pair] is a couplet of persons and Dharma; the latter is a couplet of joy and respect. Among the four persons, that Subhūti is clarified first may be because Subhūti was the first to rise from his seat at that time. Or it may be because Subhūti had the merit of transmitting the teachings, and therefore was listed first.
