From 'and addressed the Buddha, saying' onward is the second, speaking and personally expressing their assimilation of understanding. As for the text, it has two parts: first, properly expressing their assimilation of understanding; next, praising the Buddha's kindness as profound and difficult to repay. Because their understanding was attained through the Buddha, they praise the Buddha's kindness; furthermore, truly because they assimilated understanding did they first recognize the Buddha's kindness, so they praise the depth of the Buddha's kindness to complete their assimilation of understanding. The first text again has two parts: first, prose; next, verses. The prose has three parts: namely, the Dharma, the parable, and the application. Grouping like with like, it is divided into two: first, the Dharma explanation briefly expresses their assimilation of understanding; next, from the parabolic explanation onward, it extensively expresses their assimilation of understanding. The former is brief and the latter extensive in order to explain the meaning. Within the first there are again two parts: first, recounting past delusion; second, expressing present awakening.
