就此品有二：初、正授記；二、聞下根之端許說宿世因緣。就初又二：前、授四大弟子記；次、授五百弟子記，逆擊其心也。初中有二：前、授迦葉；後、授三人。初授迦葉中，前長行、次偈頌。長行又二：初、告大眾；後、正明授記。

Regarding this chapter, there are two parts: first, properly conferring prophecies; second, hearing the beginning of the lower roots and promising to speak of their past causal conditions. Within the first, there are also two parts: first, conferring prophecy on the four great disciples; next, conferring prophecy on the five hundred disciples, striking their minds in advance. Within the first, there are two parts: first, conferring prophecy on Kāśyapa; later, conferring prophecy on the other three persons. In the initial conferment on Kāśyapa, first is prose, and next are verses. The prose also has two parts: first, addressing the great assembly; later, properly clarifying the conferment of prophecy.
