8.218

偈文但頌三事：半行，頌第一時節；半行，頌第二化主；餘六行，頌第五過去久遠。上長行有五，今但頌三：初二行，頌第二、舉譬問諸比丘；次兩行，頌第四、明過去長遠；次兩行，頌第五、歎佛智也。

The verse text versifies only three matters: half a line versifies the first, the period; half a line versifies the second, the transforming master; the remaining six lines versify the fifth, the great length of the past. In the prose above there were five, but here only three are versified: the first two lines versify the second, adducing a parable to question the monks; the next two lines versify the fourth, explaining the great length of the past; the next two lines versify the fifth, praising the Buddha's wisdom.
