The first passage has three parts: first, internal contemplation; second, external bodily reverence; third, uttering words to request prophecy—which are the sequence of the three actions. Regarding 'We too should have a share in this': there are two deductions and two conclusions. As for the two deductions: first, adducing oneself to deduce that one should receive prophecy. Stating 'We too should have a share in this' expresses their attainment of awakening and understanding. 'The Tathāgata alone is our refuge' requests the Buddha to bear witness to verify that they possess understanding. Furthermore, their trace abides among śrāvakas, but their ultimate refuge is the Buddha path; hence they make this statement. From 'Moreover, we' below is the second, adducing others to deduce that they must certainly receive prophecy. These two persons are the most intimate; if they ultimately failed to receive prophecy, there would be two faults: first, going against the expectations of beings; second, violating their original vows. 'If the Buddha confers upon us' is the second, explaining the two conclusions. 'Our vows will be fulfilled' concludes the first deduction based on oneself; 'and the hopes of the assembly will be satisfied' concludes the second deduction based on others. Furthermore, 'The Tathāgata alone is our refuge' shows that they are identical to the other śrāvakas and therefore should receive prophecy; 'Moreover, we are [seen] by all the world' shows that they are distinct from the other śrāvakas and therefore should receive prophecy. 'Our vows will be fulfilled' concludes their identity with the other śrāvakas; 'and the hopes of the assembly will be satisfied' concludes their distinction from the other śrāvakas.
