9.177

二經各有一義，彼明慈悲有養育之能、化適之用，故喻之如女；今取其拔苦與樂之功在蔭蓋，故譬之如舍。彼明畢竟空至虛無累，能障非法風雨，故喻之如舍；今明重玄憺怕可以栖臥於神，故目之為坐也。

The two sūtras each have their own meaning. That sūtra explains that benevolence and compassion have the capacity to nurture and the function of harmonizing and adapting, hence it compares them to a daughter; the present text takes their merit of extracting suffering and bestowing joy as lying in sheltering and covering, hence it compares them to a house. That sūtra explains that ultimate emptiness is supremely open and unburdened, capable of barring the wind and rain of what is not Dharma, hence it compares it to a house; the present text explains that profound subtlety and tranquil serenity can give rest to the spirit, hence it designates it as a seat.
