As for the title "Apparition of the Jeweled Stūpa Chapter," there are altogether two meanings: First, speaking in terms of the event: the jeweled stūpa emerged from the earth, and the great assembly saw it, so the name was established based on the event. Second, the emerging and manifestation of the jeweled stūpa reveals that the dharmakāya is without arising and ceasing, while expedient means have arising and ceasing; intending to cause the great assembly to awaken and understand through this, it is therefore called the Apparition of the Jeweled Stūpa. The chapter opens into five sections: first, explaining the emerging and manifestation of the jeweled stūpa; second, explaining the intention behind manifesting the stūpa; third, next explaining the opening of the stūpa; fourth, the two Buddhas dividing the seat and sitting together; fifth, commanding them to seek people who will uphold the sūtra. These five are the sequential order.
