9.93

「與之而去」者，即時未可化，不得不捨之也。又初設酒喻說教，以繫珠譬授解，授解既竟此土感息，是故去也。

Regarding "he gave it to him and departed": at that time he could not yet be transformed, so [the friend] could not but leave him. Furthermore, initially providing the wine illustrates expounding the teaching, while tying the jewel illustrates conferring understanding; having finished conferring understanding, the receptive capacity in this land had ceased, and therefore he departed.
