As for the words "I have heard," the bodhisattva transmitting the Dharma points to his own person, saying that he personally heard this Dharma from the Buddha; hence it is called "I have heard," not that "I" definitely belongs to a single [real] person. "I" refers to the conventional designation for the aggregates. However, there are three kinds of "I": First, the falsely grasped "I," namely, the "I" erroneously conceptualized by non-Buddhists and the like. Second, the conventionally designated "I," namely, the bliss, purity, permanence, and self of the Mahāparinirvāṇa, which are strongly posited to eliminate the inversions of the two vehicles. Third, the conventionally current "I" in the world, namely, names commonly passed down in the world such as Devadatta, Yajñadatta, and so forth. Here, the one transmitting the Dharma complies with worldly convention by pointing to himself and saying "I," which differs from the former two, and is indeed the Great Self of non-self.
