釋名者，梵云陀羅尼，此云總持，念、慧為體，以少略密無義文字，神力加持威靈莫匹，摧邪殄惡、樹正揚善，故名陀羅尼。此品明之，故名陀羅尼品。

Regarding explaining the title: In Sanskrit it is called dhāraṇī; here this is translated as “total retention” (zongchi). Mindfulness and wisdom are its essence; using brief, concise, secret, and meaningless syllables, empowered by supernormal strength, their majestic spiritual efficacy is unmatched, destroying the heterodox, annihilating evil, establishing the right, and propagating the good; hence it is named dhāraṇī. As this chapter elucidates them, it is named the “Chapter on Dhāraṇī.”
