Explaining the title of the chapter. That which houses the body of a buddha is called a stūpa; that which is formed of many treasures is called a jeweled stūpa; because it is formed of jewels, it is called a jeweled stūpa. Alternatively, "stūpa" is as explained before, and "jewel" refers to Prabhūtaratna (Many Treasures)—the stūpa of Prabhūtaratna Buddha. Alternatively, both the name Prabhūtaratna and stūpa are cited together, hence it is called the Jeweled Stūpa. "Jiàn" (見) is pronounced in the fanqie hù-liàn (戶練); it means to manifest. That which manifests is precisely the jeweled stūpa, hence named "manifesting the jeweled stūpa." "Jiàn" is also pronounced in the fanqie gǔ-diàn (古電); it means to see or view. Because the stūpa ascended into the air and the entire assembly beheld it, that which was seen was precisely the jeweled stūpa. It is the seeing of the jeweled stūpa, hence it is called the Chapter on Seeing the Jeweled Stūpa.
