In distinguishing wisdom and eradication: these are different names for one dharma and cannot be separated, like a single human body. Why is it that suffering is uprooted through wisdom, and joy is bestowed through eradication? Yet the mind of wise comprehension is called wisdom, and the unhindered and unentangled body is called eradication. For example, when a person is bound, applying strength pertains to wisdom, while the stillness attached to the exterior pertains to eradication; applying strength pertains to the mind, and is therefore called the adornment of wisdom; attaching to eradication while the physical body relaxes pertains to the physical body, and is called the adornment of merit. Now the words of the sūtra text cannot be spoken at the same instant, so wisdom and eradication are mentioned reciprocally. If one deeply grasps the meaning of these ten principles, understanding one, a thousand will follow, and the broad explanation of the meaning of Avalokiteśvara and the universal gate will be inexhaustible.
