Next, to discuss the expedient and the real of the various gates: Regarding the sixteen gates of the teachings and contemplations of the Tripiṭaka and shared teachings, both that which can lead through and that which is led to are expedient. Regarding the teachings and contemplations of the distinct teaching, that which can lead through is expedient, and that which is led to is real. Regarding the eight gates of the teachings and contemplations of the perfect teaching, both that which can lead through and that which is led to are real.
