'A great general of the gods': for instance, the Suvarṇaprabhāsa takes Saṃjñāya to be the great general; the Mahāparinirvāṇa Sūtra says: 'Aṣṭa-kandhī, a wrestler among the gods.' The Shilun speaks of Maheśvara as above, and also speaks of Kumāra, translated here as Youth, riding a peacock, holding a rooster, carrying a bell, and holding a red banner; Viṣṇu is here translated as All-Hearing, with four arms, holding a conch and a wheel, riding a garuḍa. These are all great generals of the gods. It is not yet known what kind of four propositions this 'great general' corresponds to.
