Ninth, the one verse on the peril of rākṣasa ghosts, which also includes poisonous dragons. Previously there were fish, dragons, and ghosts; stating them again here is because dragons and ghosts extend across both water and land, whereas previously they were only in the water. The earlier text discussed the four types of dragons and so forth. Tenth, the one verse on the peril of ferocious beasts. Eleventh, the one verse on the peril of snakes and scorpions. Twelfth, the one verse on the peril of rain and hail. To benefit those who practice contemplation, one should skillfully interpret them according to evil karma and afflictions as the dharmamukhas of snakes, tigers, and so on, so that they accord with principle. If, following the Commentary on the Qing Guanyin Jing, one employs three meanings to explain the functional capacity of dispelling and subduing—namely according to phenomena, according to practice, and according to principle—and correlates them with the retributions, afflictions, and foundational abiding dharmamukhas herein, it should also be understandable. The stimulus and response of verbal karma is concluded.
