問：何以智慧名中體耶？答：順此經意。此經以寂照合法身為體、感應為宗，得作此說。

Question: Why is wisdom called the substance of the Middle? Answer: To accord with the intention of this sūtra. This sūtra takes the union of quiescence and illumination into the dharmakāya as its substance, and stimulus and response as its central theme; hence it can be explained in this way.
