1.57

論曰：此是總治。觀十二支略有二門：一觀無作緣生，治作者執，如說是事有故是事有；二觀無常緣生，治常住執，如說是事生故是事生。存我之來此二為本，本既除故諸末隨滅也。

The commentary says: This is the general treatment. Contemplating the twelve links briefly has two approaches: first, contemplating dependent origination without an agent, which cures the clinging to an agent, as in the statement: "Because this exists, that exists"; second, contemplating impermanent dependent origination, which cures the clinging to permanence, as in the statement: "Because this arises, that arises." In the provenance of positing a self, these two are the root; since the root is eliminated, all branches perish along with it.
