The treatise says: Below, this is the third section: Śāriputra expresses his understanding in order to cause the lesser assembly to generate the great aspiration [for awakening]. In this there are two parts: first, expressing understanding; second, endorsement. In the first part there are also two: the first three verses versify what was previously spoken, while the subsequent two verses express his own generation of the aspiration. In the first part there are three: first, the first two verses versify the unestablished path; next, two lines versify the stages of the six practices; afterwards, two lines versify the threefold clusters of emptiness. In the first part, stating 'endowed with the ocean of prajñā' means that through the three liberations, one possesses the three wisdoms. 'Not abiding in the city of nirvāṇa' is because one extinguishes the mind of the three realms of existence yet does not dwell in the quiescent ground. 'Which does not emerge from a high plateau' is because, like those of the two vehicles who are free from the mud of afflictions, for eighty thousand kalpas and so on they do not generate the aspiration. 'Do not abandon the afflictions' is because, unlike the two vehicles, they do not quickly sever them completely within two or three lives. 'Just as the flower emerges from the mud' is because through retained afflictions they enter the untamed ground, and therein fully cultivate the bodhisattva practices. Because they are thereby able to realize the fruition of bodhi, it is called practicing the three clusters. This is clear in the text.
