The treatise says: This is the second section: expressing his own generation of the aspiration. In this there are two parts: the initial two lines express the stage of his present generation of the aspiration; the subsequent one and a half verses manifest the practices he will subsequently cultivate. 'I now abide and do not abide' means that now, having heard the Buddha's explanation, he has already generated the great aspiration, which is to abide in the mind that does not abide in the quiescent ground. 'To where I came, I now return again' means that the place of arrival in beginningless transmigration, which I had previously departed from, I now return to again, coming and entering the three realms to deliver sentient beings; because by the power of the samādhi of the limit [of existence], one prolongs the body that is received, manifesting it in accordance with what is appropriate. 'And only after [practices are] complete do I depart' means that after completing all the practices of a bodhisattva, one departs from this body and attains the Buddha's body. Stating 'those who came before' refers to those whose roots of goodness have already matured in the past. Stating 'those who come later' refers to those who will only mature in future ages, because one never rests until the end of the future limit.
