The sixteenth bodhisattva of the practice of good manifestation is an elder named Samantanetra-sugandhi (Puyan Miaoxiang), who enters the universal-door teaching-gate that causes all sentient beings to rejoice. First is exhorting and instructing [him] to enter; second, from 'Then Sudhana' onward, is advancing and entering in accordance with instruction; third, from '[He] answered, saying' onward, is directly attaining the dharmadhātu. The first text has three [parts]: showing the place, the person's name, instructing the request, and so forth. In the second, entering, there are seven: first, paying homage and taking leave; second, reflecting on the preceding teaching-gate; third, gradually arriving at the place; fourth, giving rise to superior progressive practice; fifth, from 'seeing the Universal Door' onward, seeing the appearance, which is divided into circumstantial and direct retribution into two [parts], as can be known; sixth, discerning the ritual of respect; seventh, from 'saying' onward, asking for instruction. In the third, directly entering, there are three: first, praising the generation of the mind [of bodhi]; second, from 'I know all...' onward, explaining the teaching-gate of his own lot; third, from 'All great medicine kings...' onward, deferring to the superior stages. Within his own lot there are two: first, discerning the gathering and benefiting; second, with 'I only...', concluding with the name. The first text has four [parts]: first, in curing afflictions, the retribution obstacles are two, which can be known; second, from 'thereafter' onward, removing their meditative obstacles; third, from 'praising' onward, teaching the generation of the mind [of bodhi] to remove their subtle obstacles so that all practices are accomplished, which has two [parts] that can be known; fourth, from 'Good man, I also...' onward, clarifying the possession of other skillful means, which has two [parts] that can be known. In the deferral, first is discerning the particulars, and next is the conclusion.
