The stage of the seventeenth bodhisattva of the practice of non-attachment is a king named Anila (Manzu), who enters the teaching-gate of phantom illusions. First is exhorting and instructing [him] to enter; next, from 'Then Sudhana' onward, is entering in accordance with instruction; third, from 'Then King Anila' onward, is directly entering the dharmadhātu. The first text has three [parts], as before. In the second, entering in accordance with instruction, there are eight: first, taking leave; second, recollecting, in which there are two [parts]: first is general, and next are sixteen distinct lines; third, arriving at the place; fourth, giving rise to skillful means to guide him, which has two texts of question and answer; fifth, from 'seeing' onward, seeing the appearance has three: first, seeing the circumstantial and direct retribution; second, seeing the method of governing the state; third, seeing it and producing doubt, which can be known; sixth, from 'having this thought' onward, the bodhisattvas and others guiding, admonishing, and dispelling the doubt, which has four [parts] that can be known; seventh, from 'having heard the gods' onward, the ritual of respect; eighth, from 'saying' onward, stating his own [intent] and asking for instruction. In the third, directly entering, first is discerning his own lot; second, from 'All great...' onward, deferring [to superiors]. The first text has four: first, gathering and receiving by skillful means; second, 'Seeing this retribution of mine,' showing the characteristics of his conduct and examining them; third, from 'I have achieved...' onward, clarifying the essence and function of the teaching-gate, which has three: first, essence; next, function; third, conversely revealing its accomplishment; fourth, from 'I only...' onward, concluding the demarcation. In the deferral there are two: first is extensive, and next is the conclusion.
