Fourth, distinguishing what is perfected: perfecting faith, namely the ten minds of faith: (1) mind of faith, (2) mind of mindfulness, (3) mind of vigor, (4) mind of wisdom, (5) mind of concentration, (6) mind of non-retrogression, (7) mind of dedication, (8) mind of protection, (9) mind of precepts, and (10) mind of vow. As in the sūtra, before the abode of initial aspiration for bodhi and before the dwelling in lands, there are the names of these ten minds; increasing and cultivating these minds for one kalpa, two kalpas, or three kalpas, one is then able to enter the stage of the first abode and increasingly cultivate the gateways of clarity of the hundred dharmas. Within the ten minds, each and every mind has ten, thus completing the hundred dharmas. Always making great vows with practice and without practice, one is able to enter the gotra of habitual practice to cultivate all vows; according to the text below, there are one hundred and forty matters of superior practice and vows. Relying on the Yingluo jing, vows are accomplished within twenty-four practices, which is the principal theme of this chapter. This is spoken in terms of specific characteristics; the comprehensive meaning should be understood as in the treatise. As for the principal theme, there are two meanings: if in terms of the chapter, it takes the ten profound meanings as its principal theme; if in terms of the assembly, it takes the Dharma of the stage of the ten faiths as its principal theme.
